Piccolo Canoe The Piccolo is a happy choice for todays market: light and simple, easy to maintain, transport and store, practical yet beautifully elegant. Based on the Victorian sailing canoe they range from 14ft to 16ft.
Her construction is epoxy glued plywood clinker using mahogany marine plywood and oak fot the steam bent frames and solid timbers. She has a beautiful, gentle sheer with a marked forefoot to grip the water

Piccolo Canoe Her layout is simplicity itself. The forward thwart provides stiffening for the hull and support for the mast which passes through it into the mast step on the hog. The aft thwart and the backrest, which slots in amidships, precludes any tendency for the rest of the boat to twist.<

She has a high peaked gunter rig with a clear fir mast and yard setting 34sqft of red polyester sail with a single part sheet leading aft through wooden eye at the stern. The rudder has a long push-pull tiller.

" The wind was easing away to nothingness as I gingerly lowered myself onto the bottom boards - which suited me perfectly as I am still practising my scales where sailing canoes are concerned. "
" Once embarked things eased up considerably. As soon as I had sorted out the lee board and reminded myself that the push pull tiller system is dead easy really, just unfamiliar and I`d hardened the sheet and we were actually moving, then I was able to relax and focus on more than just keeping upright."
" The light breeze suited us both perfectly and I was impressed with how slick the piccolo is. We glided out to the moored boats so that I could put her through her paces amongst them and apart from a few heart stopping moments when I pushed when I should have pulled, she slalomed through with no trouble at all"
" The Piccolo went surprisingly well to windward, her long keel helping to keep her directionally stable"

16ft " Flute " The " Flute", the 16ft version of the Piccolo fitted with an Alden Oarsport rowing unit.
